Springs lst warbler…

Yellow-rumped warbler

These are usually the lst warblers to arrive in our yard. They’ve had a rough beginning here with our terrible weather, but hopefully it’s all behind us and the warmer temperatures are here to stay.

Time for the Wood Ducks!

Pair of Wood Ducks

I can’t think of a prettier pair than these Wood Ducks. This pair was also swimming around Spring Harbor where I grew up. Funny, how I don’t remember seeing all these variety of ducks when I was little growing up on the Harbor.

Tiny Loch Ness Monster

Pied-billed Grebe

While watching this Pied-billed Grebe down at Spring Harbor, he kept reminding me of “Nessy” the Loch Ness Monster. Sometimes this guy travels with just his head out of the water while he’s paddling around and diving for fish. I think he’s pretty cool looking.

Another Horned Grebe

Horned Grebe

Another photo taken off Mari’s pier in the Harbor. I just wish I could get him to fluff up his crest.¬† Hopefully another day.

Horned Grebe

Horned Grebe

My friend Mari, told me about¬† the variety of waterfowl out in front of her pier at Spring Harbor and I should check it out. WOW, was all I could say. I saw and photographed quite a few. I don’t remember all these ducks when I was growing up at the Harbor, but I know I’ll never miss another spring with them coming through.

Ruby-crowned Kinglet

Ruby-crowned kinglet

Enjoyed sitting outside on Monday afternoon watching this little guy go after a female Kinglet and he was really showing his red tuff on the top of his head….he was really trying to get her attention. After all his hard work, I hope he found a mate.

Common Mergansers

Pair of Common Mergansers

I found this beautiful pair of mergansers swimming over by Lake Wabesa about a week ago. It’s amazing the many different types of waterfowl that have been passing through this area.

Pine Siskin

Pine Siskin

This little bird finally came through our yard a couple of weeks ago. We’ve had them here before, but it’s been awhile. So glad to see they are back. Maybe they will stay for a bit.

An American Crow

American Crow

I have to admit, I’m not crazy about crows, but thought this photo taken down at Mazanet marina the other week made him look so good. Look how shallow the water is around the piers. Time to bring up the water level on Lake Mendota.

Spring Bluebird

My lst bluebird of the season was seen at Rose Lake. What a beautiful male and I’m sure with these looks he had no problem finding a beautiful female.
