Male 12-Spotted Skimmer

Thanks once again to the Madison Audubon Society, they have helped me identify this dragonfly. Normally I am not a “bug” person, but I thought this guy was really cool. I guess there is a place in the world for all of these creatures.

What a beautiful pattern of black and white stripes on the dragonfly! I’m glad to see you are including more of these creatures on your blog, Joleen. And I certainly agree with you, each one has a purpose and a reason for sharing this earth with us. Aren’t we fortunate to have such diversity around us?

I knew I could count on my #1 fan. I agree Ann, we are all here for a purpose. Just saw something in birds and blooms magazine about NOT using pesticides as these dragonflies along with many others need the insects for food. Thanks for your comment Ann.

I see these too and have not known what species they are. Thanks for the photo and the information!
