Red-bellied Woodpecker

I guess I’m getting a little lazy posting to my blog. I have the bird photos, but I haven’t been taking many pictures lately as the warblers have headed north and the mosquitos have made their way into the yard. More insects for the birds to eat as far as I’m concerned. Anyway…..I love this capture of this woodpecker who is here year round. I can always count on him coming by and hitting the feeders and the suet feeder. He’s still very cool to see fly in and out. A pretty impressive bird as far as I’m concerned. Now, I would LOVE to see and photograph the Red-headed Woodpecker that has been spoted in our neighborhood. You can be sure I’ll post that photo right away, if and when I get it. Happy birding everyone!

I like this bird! It’s always interesting to hear his call, somewhat nasaly interspersed with catlike “mew” notes. Some individuals can also be pretty good mimics. I do know they like jelly along with our orioles, that’s a good bet in our yard as I have to fill the jelly dish every other day. The above photo shows the plain dark gray bird with the black “cap” and his long black tailed often cocked showing his chestnut undertail. Hopefully, you’ll be able to see this bird. Keep your ears tuned to a “mewing” sound and even if you don’t see him, that could be your catbird hiding in the underbrush. Happy birding everyone!

I guess I’m not done showing another warbler that has visited our backyard. This little warbler has come back to our yard these past few years, but always wonderful to see him again each spring. I’m already a little sad that, for the most part, these little birds have moved on to their breeding grounds. Just a few still stay in this area and breed. Thankfully I was able to see a couple of warblers, not in our yard, but at Cherokee Marsh, where I believe they will nest and have their babies. ¬†Happy birding everyone!
