About Me

I’ve always enjoyed birdwatching as a hobby and credit my father for my appreciation of nature.  In the summer of 2009, my husband purchased a camera for me and there began my love of photography.  I’ve been able to combine my two passions – nature and photography, into a wonderful hobby that keeps me busy all year long.  I hope you enjoy my pictures as much as I do in sharing them with you!

Hi, Joleen, Found your website looking at random new posts, and enjoyed your photography–especially the stretching squirrel. And I’ve always loved the haunting call of the hermit thrush. Keep it up! –Gary

Joleen, I have decided that when I grow up I want to be just like you! Your site is simply beautiful. I have always loved birds (thanks to my parents) but only began to pursue it as a hobby about four years ago. Naturally, the desire for decent photos followed, although I am only now purchasing a really “better” camera for this purpose.

Thanks Shirley for your kind words. I’ve only been at the photography for a couple of years. Thankfully my camera, Nikon D5000 is pretty much automatic. Glad you enjoy the blog. Good luck with your new camera and getting pictures of those birds.

    Beautiful bird shots…

Looks like you are so passionate about nature and especially birds 🙂

Even with a great lens, it’s so hard to get very good images of birds, right?

Here I could see plenty of beautiful shots… your effort should be highly appreciated 🙂

    Have a great time…

Sreejith, how kind of you to say. I absolutely love the birds and look forward to taking a lot of pics this Spring, then it tapers off a bit, but I do love the nature and wildlife pictures. Thank you and so glad you appreciate them.

Lovely photos! Where do you live that you get to see so many warblers visit you?

    • jkgphotos said,

Thanks Maya…I live in Madison, Wisconsin and I believe I must be on some migratory path that they seem to use and stop off at our yard. We have a pond, multiple birdbaths, pine trees, hardwood trees, shrubbery and a very wooded and natural yard. Whatever we have the birds seem to love it. I don’t get out to other areas much, partly because I have knee problems which makes it hard to walk or stand for any length of time, but the other reason is that these birds come right down close and personal and I can watch them from the comfort of my patio chair. I’m SO lucky!

Ahhh, you’re in the Mississippi Flyway, you are likely to have wonderful birds visit you often, especially with such a nice retreat for them to stop by. I’ve birded in that area and felt like a kid in a candy store 🙂 It seems they are delivering those treats right to you! I’m looking forward to seeing more of your visitors 🙂
